This post is an installment of our profile series featuring participants, loved ones, advocates, and team members of the MBCproject. Thank you to all who have shared their voice and stories.
Today's profile features Kim Groglio.
Q1. In your own words, can you share with us your reasons for joining the Metastatic Breast Cancer project (MBCproject)?
I joined because I wanted the chance to have a direct connection with an organization doing research with and for MBC patients while sharing information.
Q2. Please tell us what being a part of the MBCproject means to you.
It means that I am directly involved in research that will hopefully make a difference in the lives of MBC patients like myself and possibly make groundbreaking discoveries.
Q3. If you'd like to share, please tell us how it felt when you were diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.
It felt surreal being told that the breast cancer that I thought had been successfully treated and behind me had returned and would now surely kill me. Two and a half years since that diagnosis and I’m still stunned, horrified and sick about it. It is ALWAYS in the forefront of my thoughts. It’s an unbelievably heavy burden.
Q4. In a few words, can you please share with us your hopes for the future of metastatic breast cancer?
I want to believe that with all the research happening now that MBC can truly become a manageable chronic condition that people can live with (well) - at least until cures can be discovered. I want these things to happen NOW!
