Profile: Brett Tomson

This post is an installment of our profile series featuring participants, loved ones, advocates, and team members of the MBCproject. Thank you to all who have shared their voice and stories.

Today's profile features Brett Tomson.

Q1. In a few sentences, can you please share what being a part of the MBCproject means to you?

Having patients as partners not only improves the quality of science and our ability to ask new and impactful research questions, but also motivates us as researchers to appreciate who is on the other side of the samples and diseases that we study. Being connected and driving discoveries collaboratively brings us all together in a way that will be critical for tackling metastatic breast cancer. I am grateful for being part of a mission-driven team that is reminded every day of why we are doing what we are doing.

Q2. Can you please share and describe your role on the team? What do you like most about your role?

As a scientist, I am involved in our team's efforts to widely and freely share de-identified molecular, clinical, and patient-reported data generated as part of the MBC project. It is very rewarding to empower everyone around the world to maximally utilize this data we generate together as part of the MBCproject.

Q3. In a few words, what are your hopes for the future of metastatic breast cancer?

I hope in the future that this collective effort of patients, advocates, and researchers working together has changed the landscape of MBC to improve patient outcomes and understand the best way to treat this disease in each unique patient.
